Supported by the EU research project “Localization in Geophysics, Geohazards and Geoengineering (LOC3G)”, a six-member delegation from Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv (Ukraine) visited Clausthal University of Technology (Germany) for a one-month secondment until the end of February 2026. On 6 February 2026, the two institutions jointly hosted a specialized academic workshop, featuring systematic exchanges and in-depth discussions on frontier topics spanning geosciences, geohazards, subsurface energy systems, and low-carbon innovation.

The workshop was chaired by Prof. Michael Zhengmeng Hou (Institute of Subsurface Energy Systems, Clausthal University of Technology), who welcomed the delegation and outlined the research background and overarching objectives of LOC3G. He highlighted the growing importance of international collaboration in advancing subsurface energy development and carbon-related technologies, and emphasized that LOC3G provides a strong platform for researcher training, cross-institutional knowledge exchange, and future joint project initiatives.

Across the sessions, speakers from both sides presented recent research progress and emerging methodologies, ranging from rock physics characterization and reservoir property evaluation to geological hazard assessment and intelligent computational approaches, as well as advances in energy-system modelling and carbon-reduction technologies. The workshop concluded with a shared commitment to maintain close academic interaction and to pursue follow-up collaboration through joint research activities, mobility exchanges, and co-authored outputs.
